Ebenezer Jackson (1763-1837), the son of Michael and Ruth Jackson, was born in Newton, Massachusetts. At the age of 14, he enlisted in his father's regiment, the 8th Massachusetts Infantry; he served until 1783. Jackson moved to Savannah, Georgia, where he became a merchant, selling rice and cotton. He was also involved with the Tennessee Company and owned two plantations. In 1790, the State of Georgia gifted four land companies, including the Tennessee Company, with tracts of land that were officially Indian lands. The actions were overturned by President Washington. The main participants in the Tennessee Company were Zachariah Cox, Matthias Maher and John Sevier.
